Interior Design Chat:
Amy Ellis McNeil

Room2One of the most rewarding aspects of working for At West End is seeing the many creative ways that our customers style AWE products. It’s always exciting to see the new perspective a fresh pair of eyes can bring to a piece that we’re so used to seeing. We recently had the pleasure of doing a fun little collaboration with the talented Mississippi interior designer, Amy Ellis McNeil. We invited Amy to the At West End flagship store in Ridgeland, MS and asked her to pick out a few items that she’d like to showcase in a living room setting. After selecting several favorites, Amy styled a room based around a few key At West End pieces. The result is a comfy living area that utilizes a tasteful mix of classic furniture pieces dressed with a few rustic AWE accessories. You can shop a few of Amy’s selections below…

An artist at heart, McNeil also specializes in printmaking, from gravestone rubbings to the traditional Japanese fish prints known as Gyotaku. From 2004 to 2009, she served as an artist on the Artists Roster for the Mississippi Arts Commission for her printmaking, while also teaching at schools across the state with the Mississippi Whole Schools Initiative. Amy practices residential and commercial design through her company Amy McNeil Interiors. Special thanks to Sophie Wolf for the photos.

Music Monday: William Tyler

William-Tyler-Impossible-Truth

It’s been a while since we’ve shared any music with you guys, so here’s one of the AWE design team’s most recent favorite finds. Hailing from Nashville TN, William Tyler draws from a long tradition of American guitar music. His style is rustic and grand, lovely music to listen to on a nice Sunday drive. This video from the Martin Guitar Co. is a beautifully filmed showcase of Tyler’s raw talent. Happy Music Monday!

The Old Try

Our friends at The Old Try are on a quest. Their mission: to inspire and delight by reminding their customers of an older time and place. Marianna & Micah Whitson, a Southern couple transplanted to Boston, MA, long for the friendly Southern traditions they grew up with. Primarily a print shop, The Old Try specializes in letterpress prints inspired by the rich history of Americana. We love their series of prints dedicated to the southern states of the U.S.A. Every piece in this series is a hand crafted celebration of the South, honoring each state’s own charming quirks. Click the “read more” link to see a few of our hand picked favorites. Artist Inspiration: Andy Goldsworthy

Andy Goldsworthy

“At it’s most successful, my “touch” looks into the heart of nature; most days I don’t even get close. These things are all part of a transient process that I cannot understand unless my touch is also transient; only in this way can the cycle remain unbroken and the process be complete.”
-Andy Goldsworthy

The work of Andy Goldsworthy has been praised over the years for it’s celebration of the random beauty of nature and it’s critique on our idea of when and where art takes place. His use of shape, color, and his transformation of space is truly “AWE-inspiring!” Though Goldsworthy’s work is seen by very few in person, the photographic documentation of his “Land Art” has inspired the masses. I can only imagine the feeling of stumbling across one of these beautiful displays during an afternoon hike. If you are not familiar with Andy Goldsworthy’s work, please click “read more” to view some of our favorite examples of his art. We hope you enjoy, and please, have a wonderful weekend!
