- an old soapy toothbrush
- a glass of clean water
- a palette knife if you’ll be mixing your own colors
- a palette
- assorted paintbrushes
- rock animals
- acrylic paints in your favorite colors
- cool extras (paint pens, glitter, sequins, whatever)
Remember pet rocks? That was such a hilarious trend. Well we have these quirky, rustic animals made out of repurposed river rocks, and I thought it would be fun to put a new spin on our bird family set!
If you want to make some of your own, here’s what you’ll need:
So first you’ll probably want to gently wash off any dirt from your rock animals, since they’re made from real river rocks.
Now that everything is in order, it’s time to start painting! You can sketch out a design on paper to give you an idea of where to start, or you can just dive right in and go wild. It all depends on your style. I decided to just wing it (haha!)
You’ll want to let your birdies dry after each coat, just so that your colors don’t mix together and get all muddy. Luckily acrylic paint dries pretty quickly.
Do as many layers as you like. The more intricate you get with it, the cooler it will look! This is how mine turned out:
You can even go back once your paint is completely dry and add cool extras. I added a little bit of shiny silver paint pen to mine, but you could use almost anything to spruce up your feathered friends!
So there you go! I hope you have hours of fun dressing up these little critters. There are plenty to choose from and endless possibilities!
